Missed a Flight on a Low-Cost Airline? What You Can Still Do

Low-cost carriers keep fares cheap by limiting flexibility, but a missed flight isn’t always a total loss.

Understand the fare rules

Basic fares often allow no refunds and charge high change fees. Check whether you added a flexibility option when you booked.

Ask for unused taxes and fees

Even when the fare is lost, airport taxes and fees can often be refunded if you request them.

Compare change fee vs. new ticket

A paid change is sometimes cheaper than a new last-minute fare, but not always. Check both before deciding.

Contact them quickly

Some budget airlines allow changes only within a short window after departure.
